TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IF YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN ABUSED:

1. Stay calm.

2. Respect the child’s privacy. Find a quiet and comfortable place and carefully listen to what he/she is saying.

3. Believe the child and take him/her seriously/ children seldom lie about abuse.

4. Make a report to the authorities.

5. Do not confront the abuser yourself.

6. Take the child to the doctor for immediate medical attention.

7. Let the child know that the abuse was not his/her fault.

8. Find a licensed therapist who specializes in child abuse.

9. Pray with the child and reassure them that Jesus loves them and does not want them to be hurt.

10. Create a safety net around the child which includes your pastor, family members and trusted friends; people that will encourage him/her spiritually and emotionally. The child will know that he/she is protected within this safety net.
