A Part of the
Family of God

Though sin
today has temporarily interrupted Gods first plan, the earth,
cleansed from all traces of sin, is once again to become a home
for the family of God for eternity.
The Biblical record of the creation of the world
centers on the human family. While the rest of creation is described
in somewhat limited form, the story of the creation of Adam and
Eve is given in increasing detail.
In Genesis 1:26-29, our first parents are spoken of as being made
in the image of God, male and female, with dominion over all else
created. Next, they are admonished to be fruitful and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it. The world is placed
under their dominion, and they are given a perfect diet.
Genesis 2:7 emphasizes that they are made of dust and as God breathes
into their nostrils the breath of life, they become living beings.
Finally, Genesis 2:20-25 speaks of creating Eve as an help
meet, or one who is adequate to be Adams companion.
The closeness and equality of Adam and Eve are illustrated by her
creation from his rib, so that she stands by his side as an equal.
They are unashamed, even though they have no artificial clothing.
The first beautiful home setting is a gift from a loving Creator.
Though sin today has temporarily interrupted Gods first plan,
the earth, cleansed from all traces of sin, is once again to become
a home for the family of God for eternity. All of this suggests
that God has a great love for the family.
Ellen White has stated it best:
The family tie is the closest, the most tender and sacred,
of any on earth. It was designed to be a blessing to mankind. And
it is a blessing wherever the marriage covenant is entered into
intelligently, in the fear of God, and with due consideration for
its responsibilities. The Ministry of Healing, pages
356, 357.
But family is not a human experience that is to be in total isolation
from society around it. It should be a beautiful example to those
outside its circle of the best intentions that God has for us. Along
with the Sabbath, the home is a gift from the perfect, sinless Eden.
The happiest family is to reach beyond itself to be a blessing and
inspiration to others outside of its circle.
There are so many things a family can be. It can demonstrate Gods
highest goals for human life. It can be a protection, a place of
confidence where privacy prevails. It can be a place where trust
and love can flourish.
In order to be all of these things, the family must turn to the
Creator Himself for help in every part of its existence. The words
of the song best describe it: With Jesus in the family; happy,
happy home.
